Traditional sesame balls commonly known as gato zinzli in Mauritius, they are an all-time favourite of most!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup full-cream milk powder
- 2 tbsp soft butter (at room temperature)
- 6 tbsp sugar
- Around 50g sesame seeds(zinzli) to roll the balls in
- Water, around 1/2 cup
- Oil to deep fry
Preparation:
- Mix together flour, sugar, milk powder and butter.
- Add the water gradually to form a dough. It should be quite soft and sticky but malleable by hand
- Form little balls, around 30 and roll in sesame seeds.
- Fry in hot oil on a medium-low stove and turning the balls around for even browning.
- Remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper and sesame balls are ready to be served!
