This is the recipe for a soft and sweet “bread” with a custard filling which helps keep it moist and delicious.
Ingredients:
-550g plain flour
-1/2 cup granulated white sugar (approx 100g)
-1/2 tsp salt
-1 package yeast (11g)
-50g melted butter
-300ml milk
-1 egg
-melted butter for glazing
Preparation:
1.Mix the dry ingredients first and make a well in the centre.
2. Add in that the egg, melted butter and milk.
3. Mix with the hands until a dough forms.
4. Knead on a flat surface for 15 minutes.
5.Place in a greased bowl and cover with a tea towel. Allow to proof in a warm area until it doubles in size. (about 1 hour)
6. After the dough is ready, knock off the excess air trapped and divide the dough into 20 balls.
7. Flatten each ball and fill with cooked/store-bought custard. Form into balls again and place on a lined baking tray.
8. Cover with a towel and allow to proof for a minimum of 30 minutes.
9. When they’re ready for the oven, bake at 120°C for about 25 minutes. As soon as they come out, glaze with the melted butter. (this prevents them from hardening while cooling)
10. Transfer to a wire rack for cooling and serve warm.
